But, through use of education and determination the general populous and higher ups have made a difference. (RJ) Tie In Statement: now, my witness(looks toward matthew) state your name. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Matthew- Matthew Choi RJ- Your Occupation? Matthew- I’m an environmentologist. RJ- Ok, Tell me, are there organizations that work toward stifling-if not eradicating-pollution? Matthew-yes. RJ- What are they? Matthew- well, there’s the E.P.A… RJ- explain. Matthew- The E.P.A. is the Environmental Protection Agency. They strive toward Preserving and helping the environment and it’s people. Recently they funded for Total Maximum Daily Load Development, State Water Quality Development, and other projects as funded by congress. RJ- Are there any other organizations similar to the E.P.A.? Matthew- There’s the N.R.C.S… RJ- Do continue. Matthew- The N.R.C.S. is the Natural Recourse Conservation Service, they Provide technical and financial assistance to farmers and other rural landowners to protect and restore natural resources such as water quality. RJ- What have they done?(emphasis on the “they”) Matthew- ehh..during the past five years they’ve assisted producers with the creation of new technology that helps control manure management. RJ- ok…tell me about the recent accomplishments that have been in the fight against air pollution. Matthew- Recently scientists have invented hybrid cars, and also cars that run on L.P.G. . L.P.G. is Liquid Petroleum Gasoline. RJ- Why use L.P.G.? Matthew- Because it vaporizes when released from the tank and is not water soluble, which basically means it won’t pollute underground water sources. Plus it burns more completely than Regular gasoline, resulting in a cleaner emission. RJ- right, my witness will now present exhibit A(model of LPG v.s. Gasoline.) --------------------------------------------------------Presenting Exhibit A…------------------------------------------------------ RJ- now, Mr. Choi, please tell about the recent efforts to control water pollution. Matthew- In recent efforts to control water pollution Alabama Rivers Alliance, Black Warrior Riverkeeper and the Cahaba River Society have filed a motion to help defend the agency’s stormwater program for small cities. Since Stormwater runoff is widely acknowledged as one of the most serious causes of water pollution in Alabama. Controlling it would mean a cleaner environment. RJ- ok, please explain the efforts that individuals are doing to prevent pollution. Matthew- There are lots of independent groups out there, Some groups raise money to buy land and protect it from development. Other groups study the effects of pollution on the environment and develop pollution prevention and management systems. Even farmers working together with scientists are developing crops that need less fertilizer and pesticides to grow.
